Offering advice to save money on energy bills

Better Together are giving advice about how to save money on energy bills Households have been warned that UK energy prices are set to rise more than 50% from current levels, as natural gas supplies continue to face disruption following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

It is estimated that the UK’s price cap is set to peak at over £3,000 in early 2023,  putting yet more pressure on residents across the country already struggling with a cost of living crisis.

Earlier this year, Voluntary Norfolk has received £20,000 in funding from UK Power Networks for the Better Together Service to provide advice to our clients with simple ways to save money on energy bills.

  1. Switch off lights in unoccupied rooms
  2. Hang thicker curtains and close the curtains at dusk
  3. Monitor your energy use
  4. Turn the thermostat down by 1 degree
  5. Use night storage heater controls correctly
  6. Get a better understanding of the Economy 7 tariff
  7. Reduce on-peak electric immersion heater by 1 hour per day
  8. Power down gadgets and/or turn off appliances
  9. Dry clothes outside instead of in a tumble dryer
  10. Use gas central heating instead of a decorative gas fire
  11. Get the most from solar PV panels
  12. Defrost the freezer regularly
  13. Only boil the water that you need
  14. Wash at 30 degrees rather than at higher temperatures
  15. Fully load the dishwasher and/or washing machine before using
  16. Set a timer for 4 minutes when using an electric shower
