It’s Good to Talk. Norfolk services join campaign to destigmatise loneliness

Featuring coffee mornings and creative writing sessions, Happy to Chat events and Clay Play for Adult, a series of events have been organised by Better Together partners during Loneliness Awareness Week to encourage people to talk about loneliness and get better connected within their community.

There is an increasing awareness of the negative physical and mental health effects of loneliness with Public Health England calculating that it can increase the likelihood of premature mortality by 26%’ says Kevin Vaughan, Head of the Better Together service.

‘It is not always easy though for people to admit they are lonely or take steps to get better connected and this is where we can help.  Our team will be joining or organising events across the county, offering a friendly face, a cup of tea and information about local activities and groups.  There is no obligation to take part in anything, just come and say hello.’ Kevin adds.

Among the events taking place are

  • Women’s Care and Share Coffee Morning, Monday 17th June, 10am-12noon at KindaCafé, Castle Meadow Norwich. Free to attend with refreshments provided.
  • Happy to Chat Table and Better Together Information Stand, Tuesday 18th June, 10-3pm, Tesco Extra, Blue Boar Lane Sprowston. Come and meet our Community Development Worker Amelia, have a chat and find out about activities and opportunities in your area.
  • The Bridge Social Group, Thursday 20th June 10am-12noon, KindaCafé, Castle Meadow Norwich. Friendly, supportive group for young adults moving between services and need a little extra support. Free to attend
