Towards different days together

Our Life Connectors have been busy setting up groups in different areas of Norfolk to help people connect with others in their community. One of them is the “Different Day” support group in Norwich that helps people experiencing depression, bipolar or both.

“A number of clients said they were frustrated at some professionals visiting them, ticking a few boxes or asking them about suicide and then leaving. They felt like a number and found the process a bit impersonal,” says our Life Connector Will about the origins of the group.

“Many said they felt there was a complete lack of support for issues such as depression and bipolar. The conclusion was to set up our own peer support group: not outcomes based (though outcomes are achieved) or ticking boxes, just people sharing experiences, views, advice, support and a social connection… Different Day.”

The group has become a great success. Around 15 people now attend each session and participants really value the chance to meet others and share their experiences. The group has even started meeting every week due to its popularity.

Norwich support group for people experiencing depression, bipolar, or both

The group meets every Friday in the Shoebox Community Hub

It has always been important to us that the group evolves based on the feedback from participants. That’s why there is now a designated quiet area in case members experience “sensory overload.” Participants also have their own WhatsApp group where they chat and support each other outside the sessions.

“It’s like a community. It’s great to come here and talk to others, have a social connection. Everyone is so supportive. It helps a lot,” said one of the group’s regular participants.

  • The group meets every Friday from 3pm–4pm in the Shoebox Community Hub, Norwich. People experiencing bipolar can also join our new group meeting 4pm–5pm. No referral necessary.
