Kindness Postboxes spreading happiness

Norfolk’s first ‘Kindness Postbox’ was launched this autumn in Morrisons supermarket in Diss. Kindness Postboxes first sprung up across the UK during the various lockdowns as a way to give people, particularly residents of care homes, something to smile about.

The idea of the first Kindness Postbox we set up was for people in the community to write letters, make cards or small pieces of art. Residents then post these items in the postboxes. Afterwards, we collect them and distribute them to members of the public who find themselves experiencing loneliness and isolation.

We’re encouraging residents to put cards, small pieces of artwork and token gifts into the Kindness Postboxes. We will then add them to our kindness hampers that our team are giving to people in the community who are experiencing loneliness and social isolation or are struggling financially and are in need of a little bit of Christmas or New Year cheer.

Diss, and Wells-Next-The-Sea Men’s Sheds were instrumental in making the Kindness Postbozes. Our volunteer artists (Julie, Pam, David, Jodie and Sally) then decorated them. Each box is unique, and has been decorated in the style of the individual artist.

The Kindness Postboxes are located at the following venues:

  • The Garden House Public House, Pembroke Road, Norwich
  • Morrisons Supermarket, Diss
  • East of England Coop, Harleston
  • Craftworks Café in Harleston.
  • Banham Montessori Nursery School.

If you pop into the Craftworks Café in Harleston you will have the opportunity to add your art to their postbox.
