Men’s Shed Nominated for Award

North Walsham Men’s Shed were delighted to receive a nomination in the annual ‘Shed of the Year’ awards, run by the UK Men’s Shed Association as part of their annual ‘ShedFest’.

The event took place on Saturday 25th June and was held face-to-face in Worcester for the first time in three years, following two years ‘online’ because of the pandemic.

Whilst North Walsham sadly did not win an award, they were commended for their community engagement, championing of mental health issues and the positive relationship they have built with their local MP, Duncan Baker, in North Norfolk.

However, shed chairman Ray Winder was not at all disappointed, saying:

“I’m really pleased that we even got a nomination! We have come a long way in a really short time and it’s been a fantastic effort to get this far forward.”

Ray’s comments were echoed by Jonny Wood, Better Together’s Men’s Shed Network Facilitator who attended the event said:

“I’m really proud of North Walsham Shed and it’s really gratifying that some of the pioneering work they are doing, especially in the fields of mental health support and working alongside a care home, is now getting noticed at a national level. They are a great example of the activity and ambition of the Norfolk Sheds, and they thoroughly deserved the nomination.”
