‘Sketch and Reflect’ Success

As the summer approached its close, we thought we would make good use of the last of the lovely summer weather for our ‘Sketch and Reflect’ community arts event. One kind member of the community opened up his garden in the village of Brockdish. The garden had many interesting facets to it, chickens, nooks and crannies, fungus growing on trees and a long garden that backed onto the lovely river Waveney.

People attending the event had the opportunity to bring along a sketchpad and draw or paint their surroundings. Or they could just sit and reflect in a very peaceful space. We enjoyed tea, coffee and cake and some shared their morning’s work with each other. We were watched over by Monty the splendid ginger cat who was on hand and only too pleased to pose for everyone.

Pam Spicer who organised the event, said:

“Art and creative endeavours like this are great ways to bring people together and for them to learn new skills and interact. We know that across society generally, too many people are suffering from loneliness and social isolation. It is wonderful that these activities are proving popular because I truly believe they are so good for people’s wellbeing. If everything goes well, I will look at arranging other similar events, although being an outdoor event, we will be a bit restricted during the winter months.”
